Wilfred Garcia was born in Acoma Pueblo in 1954. His mother-in-law, the late Stella Shutiva, taught him the fundamentals of working with clay in the traditional way.
Wilfred learned well. He made his way into the market in the niche of pure white figures, wedding vases (most with bands of corrugation around the neck) and large seed jars with sculpted rims and kiva ladders in the openings. Some of his large seed jars were topped with a sculpted appliqué of an ear of corn. He earned Best in Show ribbons at the Santa Fe Indian Market plus 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place ribbons at other times. Sadly, Wilfred passed away in 2018.
