Rebecca Lucario comes from a long tradition of excellent Acoma potters. She has passed her knowledge of the traditional art on to her kids Amanda, Daniel and Duane. She's a real character and should you ever meet her on the street, you might never know she is one of the finest potters ever to come from Acoma. Very down to earth, she has a beautiful sparkle in her eye and can tell some great jokes... She also has some good stories to tell of her interactions with the past matriarchs of Acoma pottery.
Rebecca is the eldest daughter of Katherine Lewis but says she was mostly raised by her grandmother, Delores Sanchez. That's who she learned to make pottery from, too. She's told me her grandmother was so strict about doing things right, the traditional way. And Rebecca's glad she was because what she learned from her grandmother has served her well since.
There is an interview with Rebecca and her daughter, Amanda, where they demonstrate how they make their pottery and what the shapes and designs mean to them. The video was live-streamed in August, 2020.
