Bonnie Sahmie Chapella Nampeyo was born in 1958. Her mother was Priscilla Namingha Nampeyo. Among her siblings were Jean, Rachel, Nyla, Randy, Finkle and Foster Sahmie. Like all the others, she learned to make pottery as she grew up, through watching and working with their mother as she made pottery.
