Carlos Laate is a potter from Zuni Pueblo. Jennie Laate was his aunt and Daisy Hooee his step-grandmother. He learned the basics of making Zuni pottery from them but has branched out since and is making his own path using traditional Zuni methods and designs.
Carlos has been making pottery since 1989 and his design elements cover all the traditional Zuni motifs: rainbirds, deer-in-his-house, heart lines, rosettes, lines, curves and ancient Zuni geometrics.
There is an interview with Carlos where he demonstrates how he makes his pottery and talks about what the shapes and designs mean to him. The video was live-streamed in August, 2020.
