Robert Tenorio learned to make pottery while he was a student at the Institute of American Indian Arts. When he returned to the pueblo after finishing school, he had to learn to pot all over again, using only natural, traditional materials and methods. He learned through trial and error and through visiting with potters in other pueblos: there were no active potters at Santo Domingo to teach him. He learned, and got really successful. Then he started teaching everyone in his family and a few other people around the village.
